With the ZinkSoft.Net-developed application TxtReaderXpress you can access a variety of eDocuments; this means EPUB, XPS, RTF, TXT, DOCX, PDF, and HTML files. If you want to, you can read the documents yourself – or you can have TxtReaderXpress read them to you. Just click the “Read” button and the application will start reading out the text.

This eDocuments reader and text to speech tool works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, as well as Windows 7. To install the application on one of the aforementioned operating systems, you will first have to download a 13.5MB archive. Inside the archive there’s an executable; run it and a setup wizard will have TxtReaderXpress up and ready to use in very little time.

The interface of TxtReaderXpress is quite easy to figure out. At the top there are buttons for opening documents, selecting the voice you want the application to use, starting and stopping the reading process. To the left, the supported formats are presented and the recently accessed files are listed. To the right, there are two tabs, one called ePub eBook Library (with a sample eBook inside) and the other called XPS eBook Library (also with some samples inside). Down at the bottom, in the right hand corner, there’s a link to a handy dictionary.

As mentioned above, you can use TxtReaderXpress to access a variety of document types – EPUB, XPS, RTF, TXT, DOCX, PDF, and HTML. When you select a word in the eBook you’re reading, TxtReaderXpress will read it loud to you. If you want to sit back and give your eyes a break, just click on the Read button and TxtReaderXpress will start reading the eBook to you. If you run across an unknown word, you can look it up in the dictionary. The application comes with built-in dictionaries for several languages, not just English.

TxtReaderXpress is shareware. The trial version is good for 30 uses; or to put it in other words, you have 30 uses to assess the functionality offered by the application and decide if it’s worth your money.

TxtReaderXpress is a handy tool you can use to read eBooks, look up words in the dictionary, and have text be read out to you. It’s a nice text to speech tool and eDocuments reader.

Pros

Works with the most popular Windows editions; takes little time to install the application. The interface of TxtReaderXpress is quite straightforward. Provides support for a variety of formats. It can read text loud to you. Comes with dictionaries for several languages.

Cons

The trial is limited to 30 uses.
